‘Misunderstood’- Old Man Of Storr, Isle of Skye, Scotland

This shot was taken on the climb down from a full morning around the back of ‘The Old Man of Storr’ on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. The route we came down was not the usual route, which was nice because it presented a few more un-seen compositions like this one. We tried our best to make it down in deep snow, which sometimes was a few feet deep in snowdrifts.

I noticed the light started to hit this rock face behind me, and although the path was probably only a foot wide (with a substantial drop off the edge), I just had to set up quickly to capture the scene. I used my Bronica ETRSI medium format film camera and added a red filter in front of the lens to increase contrast and help ‘punch’ those clouds. The result is a beautiful black and white image showing just how jugged the landscape is on the Isle of Skye from a difficult to access viewpoint rarely seen.
