Two nights away in Snowdonia with a couple of photography friends in February 2020 was a much needed break. We all shoot film and have lots in common, Ian knew the area very well but for this post I will show one of the shots from our trip out to Llyn y Dywarchen, Caernarfon, Snowdonia National Park, Wales. Llyn y Dywarchen is a lake in Snowdonia National Park not too far from Rhyd-Ddu, Caernarfon. Llyn y Dywarchen is a popular fishing lake and there are plenty of opportunities to capture the beauty around the lake, scattered rocks and boulders, a few trees, leading paths through the long grasses, ruined old buildings, Snowdonia as a backdrop and of course the lake and the island. We had a walk around and all went our separate ways to find our own shots and compositions, the movement in the clouds made we wonder if I could capture just the right amount of movement within the clouds and use a long exposure to flatten the lake.
I nearly always take a ‘behind the camera’ shot, I think the Hasselblad 500c is such a lovely camera to not only use but its so beautiful to look at. I had one of my favourite films loaded in my 1972 Hasselblad 500c, some original Fuji Acros (I’m down to my last 3 rolls now!) so this shot would lend itself towards a stunning long exposure with little to no reciprocity at just over 2 minutes.
I love how the lake shines, the contrast in the image and the path leading in and out past the trees and over to the left. If you look far right you can see the boathouse and the carpark. I have listed this image for sale in my shop if you would like to purchase a fine art print or handmade canvas.
